Hypoxis costata is a small perennial that obtains a height of around 150mm and occurs in moist rocky areas near kloofs and seepages. The densely hairy leaves are quite broad and conspicuously ribbed. The flowers (30-40mm) are butter- canary yellow and are borne aloft a stalk as long as the leaves. Flowering occurs from Oct-Jan. This is probably the most beautiful of all the Hypoxis species occurring in South Africa
This attractive specie works well in a mixed border or on its own.
