Diospyros whyteana is a very attractive garden subject with neat habit, very glossy dark green leaves and masses of distinctive reddish brown, papery, balloon-like fruit pods.  It is especially suitable as a hedge or bonsai.It also grows well in semi-shade.

Diospyros whyteana requires a loamy soil and responds well to the addition of fertiliser.
