by Johan Wentzel

Erythrina acanthocarpa
Common Name
Tambooki thorn
Plant Type
Shrub
Although a shrub, Erythrina acanthocarpa must rate as the most beautiful of all the erythrinas. It needs full sun and a well-drained soil.
Plant Description

Erythrina acanthocarpa must rate as the most beautiful of all the erythrinas. The orange and yellow flowers are born close to the stem and is exceptionally large for this genus. This is followed by spiny seedpods that turn red when ripe. This small shrub needs full sun and a well-drained soil. Treat it the same as your Aloes.

Erythrina acanthocarpa responds well to natural fertilisers.
