Gunnera perpensa is a deciduous, very hardy marsh plant with large tuberous roots and beautiful large round leaves on long stems, reaching a height of 1m. The flowers are numerous, small and not very noticeable, tiny pinkish reddish brown, borne on a long slender spike, which is taller than the leaves.
This neat attractive plant should be kept wet, especially in summer. It makes an attractive foliage plant for damp, sunny places. Plant in compost rich soil in a marsh garden for best results. This plant thrives in wet places especially where there is fresh flowing water such as at the edges of streams.
