Hypoxis acuminata has a growth form that is very grass-like; it has thin long leaves up to 30cm that stand erect. It looks at its best when interplanted with small grasses.

Hypoxis acuminata has a  growth form that is very grass-like; it has thin long leaves up to 30cm that stand erect. It looks at its best when interplanted with small grasses. The flowers are unusually large relative to the plant size. The flowers are yellow, starlike and appear through summer. The bulbs are about 5cm in diameter.

Although Hypoxis acuminata occurs in damp places it is quite comfortable in a normal garden.
