Hypoxis colchicifolia is an erect bulbous perennial that reaches a height up to 0.6m. The erect leaves grow in three ranks and the inflorescence is an auxiliary raceme that carries star-shaped yellow flowers. It tends to grow in sandy or poor soils. Its interesting growth form makes it an attractive plant in a rockery or herbaceous border it looks lovely when planted among low ornamental grasses. It can also be used as an accent feature in a wilder garden.
The flowers attract pollinating insects to the garden.
