It can be found in shallow soils among rocky outcrops in montane grassland. On the Mpumalanga and Limpopo escarpment it is commonly found along the edges of shallow seeps.
Plant Ledebouria sandersonii in a moist area in the garden amongst small grasses but it should be dry in winter.
