Plectranthus madagascariensis is a semi-succulent, aromatic, perennial herb that reaches heights between 0.4-1m. It grows in sunny or semi-shade positions in dry rocky areas and has brittle, erect stems. The leaves are thick with short stiff hairs above and woolly beneath with short stalks, they are about 15-30x10-25mm large, they sometimes have white margins. The slender inflorescence of 90-250mm large carries small flowers about 5-15mm large that are white, mauve or purple and borne between February and November.
Plectranthus madagascariensis is ideal for mass planting and makes a beautiful showy ground cover in sunny or semi-shade areas. There is also a very nice mottled variety available in the trade.
