Rendlia altera is a short, densely tufted, perennial grass with short inflorescence, which is one sided and a reddish brown colour borne in summer.
Plant Description

Rendlia altera is a short, densely tufted, perennial grass with short inflorescence, which is one sided and a reddish brown colour. It grows in shallow soil on slopes or in well-drained sandy soils. It is a hard grass, with low leaf production so it is seldomnly grazed (early in the season or after a fire)

Rendlia altera is not common in the veld. It flowers between September and May and the leaves can reach a height of up to 250mm  whilst the culms reach a height of up to 400mm.
