Plant Description

Sphedamnocarpus pruriens is a slender, climbing shrublet or climber with twining, hairy stems. The leaves are grouped in rings and covered with velvety hairs. The flowers borne in Summer and Autumn are bright yellow with crinkly petals. It is often found in the bushveld on rocky ridges.

Sphedamnocarpus pruriens is a lovely feature in the garden when in bloom but the hairs can cause some itching. Enjoy it from a distance or use it as a very effective hedge to keep intruders out.
