Widdringtonia nodiflora is a shrub or small tree that grows to a height of between 5-7m tall. It has a conical shaped cones and needle-like, spiralling leaves. The foliage is light green on younger trees and darker as the tree matures. Cones that carry seeds appear on the tree, ripening towards autumn. The bark is brown to grey, thinly fissured vertically and flaking in long, narrow strips revealing a reddish colour.
This evergreen tree is a very popular in a formal garden. It can also be implemented as a faux Christmas tree.
This slow grower (30cm/year) is frost hardy and drought resistant with a non-invasive root system. The tree is highly ornamental and will happily grow in a container until it has to be transplanted.
Widdringtonia nodiflora grows best in cool or temperate climates with good rainfall.
