Portulacaria afra is a fairly hardy, small tree with succulent leaves and ruby red branches. The leaves have a pleasant acidic flavour. After rain it is covered in clear pink to rosy mauve flowers. This very drought resistant tree grows in dry shade under trees or in full sun. Plant in well drained soil.
