Aptosimum lineare is a low-growing perennial herb or subshrub, often forming compact, prostrate cushions, sometimes erect and tufted. Leaves linear-oblong to narrowly oblanceolate with glandular hairs, particularly on the upper surface. Flowers deep blue to violet, darker near the centre.
This perennial dwarf shrub is very floriferous.Aptosimum lineare starts flowering early in Spring and it lasts into late Autumn. It prefers very well drained sandy soil and should be treated as a succulent.
Another specie, Aptosimum procumbens hails fro the Karoo and also has great potential as a horticultural subject.
