Since we want to share our passion with other professionals, we enjoy working with people who are also passionate about bringing nature back into our environment, whether it is a rehabilitation project or the landscaping of a property development. Not only do you save on water and maintenance, but you’ll also have the satisfaction of having contributed to a sustainable future.
Typical clients are the following:
- Landscape architects
- Landscaping contractors
- Rehabilitation experts
- Property developers
- Other nurseries and individuals (there is always room for a greeny) passionate about our South African indigenous flora
How We Work
Our biggest tutor is mother Nature. We spend an inordinate amount of time in unspoiled areas (very stressful!) where we study plants in their natural environment. We observe habitat, soil type, plant association and possible pollinators. We are also constantly looking for plants that have potential but are not currently available in the trade.
Since we are passionate about promoting biodiversity, we propagate indigenous plants from seed collected from wild populations, whenever possible. We strive to collect within the Grassland Biome to ensure that plants are adapted to grassland conditions.
In the process we also strive to introduce at least 20% of our stock as hitherto “unknown” indigenous plant species that are currently not available in nurseries. By continuously introducing “unknown” plants to the industry, Wildflower Nursery is a step ahead of the standard needs – we do not follow the market we lead to create and expand the indigenous market in a sustainable way..
Our study of our indigenous flora in habitat has spanned at least the last 20 years. This observational information, together with published information in numerous books on our flora, was captured in a relational database that is searchable. This is the source of information that we make available to our clients. It also assists us when plant selections are called for.
