Aristea woodii reaches a height of  20-70 cm. high. Leaves are basal and  linear.  Blue flower-clusters 3-8, are spread along the inflorescence.

Aristea woodii has a wide distribution and is an easy garden plant, provided it is planted in semi-shade. It forms clumps that can be divided every 3-5 years. Its natural enemies are few and that makes it an attractive plant to use in landscaping.
