Plant Description

Athrixia phylicoides is an aromatic shrub that can reach a height of up to 600mm tall. It has dark green, smooth, shiny, hairless leaves that are white felted below. The flowers are solitary about 15mm in diameter with mauve ray florets and yellow disc florets. These attract pollinating insects such as honeybees and butterflies. It prefers full sun and is quite hardy.

This beautiful plant is ideal to be used for a filler plant in the open spaces in flower beds, and is best used when planted in a group, or in a mixed border. Trim back once a year to keep neat.

Athrixia phylicoides  is also an important medicinal plant in South Africa.
