Barleria elegans flowers profusely in late summer and into autumn and is a good subject for a rockery. Barleria elegans is pollinated by insects and attracts various species of butterflies. The insects attract insectivorous birds, therefore this plant is a good choice for attracting wildlife into the garden. It is a fast grower and very adaptable. Due to its thorny nature, it can form a very good barrier.
Plant Barleria elegans in a compost-rich soil for best results. Trim back in late autumn, after flowering.
