Berkheya purpurea is a hardy, stout perennial that grows in colonies in grasslands. The leaves are clustered at ground level and have hard hairs on the upper surface and woolly, white hairs below. The large, deep mauve flowers are carried on tall stems.

Plant Berkheya purpurea in full sun or semi-shade in amongst grasses for best results.
