Plant Description

Bowiea volubilis is a hardy, deciduous, bulbous plant that climbs by means of its much-branched inflorescence, which sends out brilliant green tendrils in spring with pretty greenish-white flowers on the tips. The two linear leaves are inconspicuous. When draped over rocks, it is reminiscent of a fine-leaved asparagus. Plant in semi-shade or shade at the base of a tree in a compost-rich plant mix. It makes an interesting ornamental container plant.

Bowiea volubilis is a very popular medicinal plant, but handle with care. It is becoming quite rare outside protected areas.
