Drimia elata has overlapping, reddish dense scales  that make this bulb unusual. So is the flower with a very prominent spur and a silvery appearance that sprouts in spring before the leaves appear. The inflorescence can be up to 1m tall. It is not susceptible to many pests and diseases and is a popular medicinal plant.

Drimia elata blends in well with grasses and other Grassland species.
