Gerbera jamesonii is a well-known and well-loved indigenous perennial, commonly known as the Barberton Daisy. It is a perennial herb with deeply lobed leaves covered with silky hairs arising from a crown. The striking inflorescence is borne on a long stalk and the outermost petals may be cream, red, orange or pink, while the central flowers are cream.
It can be grown either in the sun or in semi-shade. It requires a compost rich soil. Water well in summer and keep fairly dry in winter. The clumps can be split every 5 years.
