Haemanthus albiflos is one of a few Haemanthus species that are evergreen and is a popular plant with landscapers.
Haemanthus albiflos is a very variable plant. The oblong leaves vary in colour from pale to dark green or greyish-green and are usually smooth and sometimes shiny. The upper half of the bulb is usually exposed above ground and is bright green. The flowers that are normally white, are followed by red berries that is relished by birds.
Haemanthus albiflos is surprisingly hardy and does well on the Highveld. It is ideally suited to a rocky terrain in the shade of shrubs or trees. Don't plant too close together since they are clump-forming.
