Hermannia depressa is a dwarf herb with spreading stems and leaves that are flat on the ground. The nodding flowers are borne on fairly short stalks. Flower colour is very variable. It sprouts annually from a woody rootstock.

Hermannia depressa can be utilised as a groundcover on a rockery, but in full sun.
