Hesperantha grandiflora is an erect bulbous perennial that can reach heights between 0.15-0.7m. The leaves are dark green, flat, limp and 2-6mm wide. It bears 1-6 flowers on a hanging stem about 40mm in diameter large and a bright mauve colour in the summer between January and April. The flowers are only open during the day. The flowers attract pollinating insects and birds to the garden.
Hesperantha grandiflora is a hardy garden plant ideal for a mixed border and makes a lovely feature in a rockery or less formal grassland type garden, or planted in groups around a pond.
