Kniphofia caulescens is a robust bulbous perennial that can reach heights between 0.6-1m tall. It is an erect perennial often found in groups or large colonies. The leaves are generally arranged in a dense rosette of about 450-700x25-50mm large, they are blueish-grey-green in colour, erect or sometimes bending on the upper half and their margins are finely toothed. It flowers in summer between January and March with very dense, bi-coloured inflorescence of about 300x60mm large, the buds are pink to red and about 24mm large with yellow stamens protruding. The flowers attract pollinating insects and birds to the garden.
Kniphofia caulescens is a hardy garden plant ideal for a mixed border and makes for a lovely feature in a rockery or less formal grassland type garden. The lovely flower display will ensure a lovely colourful display throughout the season and it is ideal for mass planting. It probably prefers a cooler climate.
