Plant Description

Lapeirousia sandersonii  has 2-4 leaves that are slender and quite narrow, like many gladioli, but the inflorescence is branched and this makes this gem remarkable. The flowers are zygomorphic, blue to violet, the lower 3 tepals each with a deep-red to purple and white hastate mark in the lower midline. It prefers good drainage as well as companion plants to support the inflorescence, such as grasses.

It is almost obligatory to interplant Lapeirousia sandersonii with grasses to provide support for this slender, floriferous perennial.
