Mackaya bella is a hardy, evergreen shrub with dark green, glossy leaves and long bunches of lilac or white, trumpet-shaped flowers. It grows in deep shade where the flowers seem to glow in the dark. They appear in masses in spring. It grows best in full shade but also fairs well in dappled shade. It makes a good screen for a shady position where other plants would struggle. It is a lovely garden plant ideal for inter-planting with other shrubs, its beautiful showy flowers will surely attract attention and birds and insects to the garden.
Mackaya bella is an excellent garden subject for that shady corner.
