Metarungia longistrobus is a small, soft, attractive evergreen shrub for the shade garden. It branches near the base to form a dense shrub 1-2 m tall with a spread of 1-2 m. Branchlets are densely covered in short white hairs that are close to the stem.The leaves are glossy and greyish-green.

The long, ribbon-like orange-brown flowers appear in candle-shaped inflorescences in late summer. They are displayed on spikes above the foliage. It flowers in late summer through to mid-winter  and if conditions are favourable, it may even flower again in spring.  Metarungia longistrobus, attracts sunbirds to the garden.

It is easy to grow and maintain and can tolerate deep shade.
