Pachypodium saundersii is a succulent shrub with a swollen stem, up to 1.5 m high. The exposed tuberous stem is up to 1 m in diameter and produces several narrow, thorny branches. The plant is covered in paired, sharp thorns, and dark green shiny leaves, and it flowers annually producing masses of white flowers that have a pinkish/purplish tinge to them. Flowering season is quite long. lasting from February to May. This species grows in dry woodland amongst rocks or in rock crevices.
Plant in a well-drained, sandy soil in full sun and water sparingly. Keep dry during the dormant period. It can withstand moderate frost.
It is an excellent container plant.
