Plant Description

Stapelia gigantea is a very variable species with the largest flowers in the genus ranging from 100-400 mm in diameter with robust stems that may reach a height of 300 mm.  The  pungent smell that is fairly local  attracts flies, which pollinate the flowers. It prefers semi-shade.

Stapelia gigantea is an excellent succulent for a  rockery, but also makes an unusual container plant. Plant in rich, porous, well-drained soil and water sparingly.
